Annual Registration Fees

Regular Annual Fee

The Registration Year runs from July 1st to June 30th of each calendar year
Psychologists on the Register of Psychologists or the Candidates Register: Regular Annual Fee – $805.00 (684.25 if paid by early deadline, May 15). The full annual fee is payable unless registration commences between January 1st and June 30th. The pro-rated fees are listed below:
January – June: $402.50
February – June: $335.40
March – June: $268.32
April – June: $201.24
May – June: $134.16
June: $67.08

(The NSBEP does not issue refunds for an early withdrawal.)

Note: Renewal Notices are emailed in April of each year.

Professional Liability Insurance Requirements*

NSBEP requires all registrants to maintain professional liability insurance in an amount not less than $1,000,000.00 per occurrence. Applicants have 30 days to provide proof of adequate insurance following their placement on either the Register of Psychologists or Register of Candidates. Limited Registration Categories

Out-of-Province Register $402.50 (No practice privilege in NS, must be registered in another jurisdiction)
Retired Register $100.00 (No longer working)
Academic Register $100.00 (No clinical practice)
Inactive Register $100.00 (Not currently practicing psychology)

Courtesy Register

20 days or less – No fee
21 – 40 days – $200

Completion of Confirmation of Registration Form or letter for another Jurisdiction

During first 12 months of registration with NSBEP – $1000.00
Following 12 or more months of registration with NSBEP – $40.00

Failure to Notify regarding Change of Address

Registrants must notify the NSBEP if there is a change in their registration information. A registrant is expected to update NSBEP with new information within 30 days of a change. There is a $100 processing fee if information sent to the registrant is returned due to a failure to notify. Please note that both a legal address and email address is required.

Supervision Fees*

Supervision is required of all psychologists on the Candidate Register. Internationally trained psychologists who are accepted directly onto the Psychologist Register must complete a mandatory period of 6 months supervision. In some cases, a period of supervision may be required of applicants coming from a US jurisdiction. The Board can also require other Registrants to complete a period of supervision under special circumstances. Typically, supervision consists of a minimum of 2 hours each month.

Most Supervisors do not request payment for providing supervision. If payment is requested, this may be on a sliding scale but is often at the usual private practice hourly session fee. In 2020, the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia recommended hourly fee is $190 per hour.

Reinstatement Fee (change from withdrawn or inactive status) – $50

Copy of Registration Certificate Fee (no charge for initial certificate) – $30

Completion of Confirmation of Registration Form for another Jurisdiction:
