All procedures for assessing
competencies must be clear at the beginning; that is, a condition of
being accepted as a candidate is to undertake to fulfill all these
requirements within a specified period of time.

For Placement on the

relevant to the field of psychological study and intended
practice.

definition (e.g. diagnosis) in field of psychological study and
intended practice.

3. |
Practicum/internship experience in
assessment/evaluation. This should be a specified component of
the degree program. If not a part of the degree program being
evaluated, the applicant should make arrangements with a
university to complete a practicum which is appropriately
supervised, with a (pass or fail) mark, and paid for as a
course/practicum, prior to being accepted on the Candidate
Register. Applicants can apply to the Board for authorization to
pursue other options, which will be assessed in terms of
compliance with competency requirements.

Evaluation of Competency
For new applications
(Candidate Register):

Ask the applicant to indicate her/his
qualifications in each area, i.e. course work and practica.

Compare the applicant’s statements with
the transcripts and references.
|

3. |
There must be a fit with the competency
requirements and a fit of what the applicant wants to do with what
s/he knows.
|

4. |
It must be possible to state why the
applicant is or is not eligible for the Candidate Register. (And
what would be required to make applicant eligible.)

For applicants for the Register of
Psychologists:
|
|
1. |
Satisfactory documented completion of
required supervised work experience.
|
|
2. |
EPPP mark 70% or better.
|
|
3. |
Supervisor’s Reports, in which all areas
of competency are addressed (with particular emphasis on
interpersonal relationships) and progress is related to goals and
intended area(s) of practice.

4. |
Supervision reports and evaluation.
|
|
5. |
Oral examination which is more
structured and maybe broadened to cover any or all areas of core
competency.
